A graduate of West Point, where he studied weapons systems engineering, Gatling also holds a master’s degree in Asian studies and public administration. Gatling served in the U.S. Army as a Northeast Asia political military affairs officer and as liaison to the Japan Defense Agency. He has worked in Japan’s military and space markets for over 20 years in government and industry. His firm’s current clients include aerospace and IT companies in Japan, the U.S., and Europe. He also chairs the Aerospace Subcommittee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan.
米国陸軍士官学校（West Point）卒。
専攻は武器システム工学（weapons systems engineering）。
アジア研究と行政学で修士号を取得。
ガトリングは米陸軍北東アジア地域軍事担当官と日本の防衛庁（現防衛省）に駐在する連絡担当官を務めた。
ガトリングは、米陸軍時代と退役後の民間での経験も含めると２０年以上日本に滞在し、軍事と宇宙関連市場で働いた経験を持つ。
彼の会社は、日本、アメリカ、ヨーロッパの宇宙関連企業やIT企業を顧客としている。
ガトリングは在日米国商工会議所の宇宙関連産業小委員会の委員長を務めている。

Lance is a Bachelor of Science graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point with Masters in National Security Affairs, East Asian Studies and Public Administration. After a career as a Foreign Area Officer in the US Army in the US and Asia, he joined the US Foreign Service. He later led the Asian business development organizations of Texas Instruments, Raytheon, Hughes Electronics, and then, Boeing Space. He now runs his own aerospace consulting company, helping companies find business partners and negotiating manufacturing agreements in Japan, while also consulting for governments and private companies on aerospace and security affairs in East Asia.
ランス・ガトリングは米国陸軍士官学校で学士号（科学）、国家安全保障、東アジア研究、行政学でそれぞれ修士号を取得。
米陸軍で外国問題担当官として米国内とアジア各国で勤務後、米国務省に入省。
その後、テキサス・インスティルメンツ、レイセオン（アメリカの軍需製品メーカー）、ヒューズ・エレクトロニクス、ボーイング・スペースといった企業のアジア進出を支援した。
現在、宇宙関連産業のコンサルタント会社を経営し、日本への進出を考えている企業に対して、ビジネスパートナー探し、製品の製造に関する合意締結などに関して支援を行っている。
また、東アジア各国の政府や宇宙関連企業のコンサルタント業務も行っている。
